Featured in many design books, Villa Arimbi Sanur supported by a friendly staff provides exceptional accommodation for up 10/12 persons. Villa Arimbi named after a mythical figure in the puppet wayang theatre has been lovingly fully renovated in 2010 to become a luxury rental home, full of charm where the old and authentic Bali blends the 21th century comfort and contemporary elegance.

The owners are pride in the authenticity and beauty of our home away. It was part of Taman Mertasari estate. This fabulous garden compound has been created in the ‘80 by several friends’ lovers of Balinese people and culture, and more especially by an artist Brent Hesselyn, a pioneer in Bali. At that time Taman Metarsari was the place to be. The wish of the owners was to keep the spirit and the ethnic charm of this old colonial style estate, while bringing some chic laughter and a touch of contemporary elegance. No detail has been overlooked and great care has been taken during renovation done the ten first months of 2010.

Orient Express
A unique relax refinement ambiance of train travel harks back to a colonial age of Asia. Warm atmosphere of wood, antique Chinese furniture, old Balinese photographs, a leather straps trunk suitcase, teak staircase, beautiful old fashion windows on three sides with insects screen, create a nostalgic atmosphere, and recalls a romantic era of travel.

This large master room is spread on the first floor of the Temple Sleeping Pavilion together with an elegant en-suite bathroom and an open to the sky natural stones two persons shower: one for you Madam and the other for you Sir. Uluwatu
This suite of 85 m2 is inspired with tradition and ocean, named after one of the most beautiful and oldest cliff top temple in Bali.

An harmonious fusion of traditional Balinese design with some simple yet elegant contemporary elements give the feeling of a spiritual spot where the main element is the four poster king size teak wood bed and a huge photograph from the talented Nikola Kostic.

The room is completed with a walk in wardrobes, a small semi open office and an amazing expansive en-suite indoor and outdoor Bali style bathroom: an art pottery as the basin, a rustic shower made with teak wood, and a terrazzo bathtub framed with an authentic mural depicting people of ancient old Bali.

Nomad
The ecru decor with warm earthy tones wood furnishings, large twins beds topped with delicate mosquito nets, safari folding chairs create a relaxing and natural atmosphere for the nomad bedroom set up on the ground level of the Temple Seeping Pavilion. Ivory black out curtains drawn at night ensures total privacy and a good night’s sleep. The semi open tropical courtyard bathroom maximizes natural elements.

It features a grey terrazzo bathtub, two natural stones basin and outside both a rain shower and a convenient hand shower fittings.

Shalimar
A colorful ambiance gives an intimate and intoxicating atmosphere of exotic gardens to this high ceilinged bedroom of the first floor of the Pond Pavilion. The decor to ignite the senses, balances subtle purple and red with contrasts of wood: the old Balinese teakwood bed and a massive antique teak desk of Chinese merchant. It overlooks the pond and the beautiful surrounding gardens of Mertasari.

An en-suite bathroom with a hand shower and two chic pedestral marble basins is linked with another adjoining lovely room features with a single bed. It can be used as a huge dressing room or be the perfect bedroom for one child.

On the ground floor terrace is an open air living room, heralded by Balinese welcome statues and furnished with a sofa, three armchairs and an opium table. This is a very peaceful place to sit with the sound of running water from the various ponds and water features.

The downstairs, air-conditioned master suite features a timber floor, a king size canopied four-poster bed, a traditional Kartini sofa, and beautiful antique carved Javanese doors. It is equipped with a TV and DVD player. The splendid ensuite bathroom is long and narrow, complete with a glass roof. At one end is a toilet and bide behind carved Balinese doors, while at the other end an archway opens into a walk-in circular marble space with a shower. There are also twin washbasins and mirrors in carved frames.

A staircase leads up to the air-conditioned master bedroom under a soaring roof. The room is furnished with a regal pair of queen-sized beds resting within an antique four poster Balinese ‘bale’ pavilion, which comes from a palace in Singaraja and was originally used for ceremonies. A carved griffin stands guard upon the canopy, and a scene from The Ramayana Hindu epic is depicted in coloured paintings on the headboards. There is also a walk-in closet, and a 42″ TV and DVD player. The ensuite bathroom is fitted with a large glass-walled walk-in shower, twin marble washbasins, and an ornate elephant-themed mirror from Thailand. Steps lead up into a large sunken bathtub and there is also an old apotik chest. Louvre doors from the bedroom open onto a broad wooden balcony, positioned on two sides with gorgeous views of the garden, and furnished with a carved daybed and a lazy hammock for truly chilling out.

Guest Wing
The guest wing is situated away from the main house on the opposite side of the swimming pool. This two-storey building is characterised by colonial-inspired modern architecture with an ironwood shingle roof, a colonnaded covered terrace and a wide upper balcony running the length of the building. The rooms are spacious and light with high ceilings, polished tiled floors, contemporary furnishings and a cream and white decor. This wing can comfortably accommodate up to six guests in its three air-conditioned bedrooms. The air-conditioned studio can sleep up to two people if required. The terrace is punctuated with modern Balinese statues.

The master bedroom in the guest wing is furnished with a king bed and a daybed, a desk, chairs, and an ottoman. It is equipped with a TV and DVD player and surround sound, an iPod dock and a safe deposit box. Adjacent is a large dressing room with loads of storage and hanging space, and the ensuite bathroom in cream marble is fitted with a large Jacuzzi bathtub, positioned centrally, twin washbasins, a bide, a toilet, and a state-of-the-art Appollo massage shower, incorporating a multi-positional overhead shower, a handheld shower, and eight hydro-massage body jets.

The second bedroom is very similar, in the same decor with a king bed, a dressing area at the back, and a cream marble bathroom with an Appollo massage shower.

Additionally, there are two twin rooms, both with beds that can be pushed together to make a double bed. Each has an ensuite marble bathroom with a small tub, twin washbasins and a massage shower. All bedrooms are equipped with safes, iPod docks and audio visual facilities.

The studio is a comfortable and casual sitting room in the same cream and white decor, ideal for parties with two sitting areas furnished with coffee tables, red and cream rugs, a large antique cupboard, and segmented sofas that can be made up as beds. It is equipped with a TV and DVD player. The adjoining cream marble bathroom is fitted with a shower and twin washbasins. The studio can be converted to a 7th bedroom, if required.

Wantilan
The living pavilion is a stand-alone classic building constructed to the exact specifications of an ancient and traditional Balinese ‘Wantilan’ (village meeting place) with a high, two-tiered roof supported by gilded wooden pillars that were handcrafted by a village of carvers. Ideal for entertaining, this grand room features a parquet floor completed with oriental rugs, and is furnished with comfortable upholstered sofas and occasional tables. It is equipped with a 42″ TV, DVD player and surround sound and is fitted with glass doors on three sides that can be folded back for open air living or closed for air-conditioned comfort.

Dining Pavilion
The dining pavilion is linked to the kitchen via a wooden bridge over a fish pond. It is comprised of two distinct areas offering guests a choice of two very different dining experiences. One is a formal indoor dining room, presented in classic Balinese style, with a hardwood floor, a soaring alang alang thatched roof and carved Balinese doors. It is furnished with a table for twelve under a colonial chandelier. This room can be closed and air-conditioned, or the sliding glass doors can be open to the verandah.

The more casual, alfresco dining verandah is sheltered by a roof and cooled by a fan. The elevated wooden floor is furnished Thai style with cushions and a low antique table for eight, suitable for dining or perhaps for playing cards. There is also an additional circular table with four chairs.

Pool House
The pool house is an open air pavilion with an elevated polished timber deck and two sitting areas. It is furnished with daybeds and lamps, while Balinese doors lead to a washroom with a shower. There is also an open air pool shower. The second sitting area is on a covered deck under a pitched roof that extends to a pergola roof. A cane suite with yellow and white striped cushions adds a splash of colour and comfort against a smooth Batu Yogya stone wall.

Gym
The gym is a self contained building with glass sides, adjoining a wash room and shower. It is equipped with air-conditioning, a treadmill, multi-gym and TV.

Kitchen
The large air-conditioned kitchen is a chef’s dream. Super deluxe, high tech and professionally equipped with absolutely everything necessary for catering for large numbers of quests, it has two ovens and two hobs with a total of nine gas burners, as well as wine coolers and a dishwasher. There is a central island, and work surfaces fashioned in black granite. There is also a pantry, and a day dining area within the kitchen, which is an ideal place for feeding kids under the supervision of nannies.

Swimming Pool and Garden
The lagoon-style swimming pool was designed to weave around the existing mature trees, ensuring that none had to be felled during its construction. It is traversed by a romantic hump backed bridge, and bordered by a stone deck furnished with a table, six chairs and an umbrella. The garden is characterised by rambling pathways, streams, hedges, ponds, water features and stone carvings, and is planted with an astonishing collection of trees and flowering shrubs, including towering coconuts palms and regal travellers’ palms. It is easy to lose oneself in the garden and kids love it. The lawn is large enough for outdoor cocktail parties and receptions. A marquee is available and there is also a barbeque. There is a secure car park at the entrance to the property, as well as a separate staff and service entrance beside the staff house, with access to another road.

Location
The village of Sanur is typified by shady lanes, vine-draped coral walls, sedate leafy compounds, majestic trees and a five-kilometre shoreline within a gentle reef-sheltered lagoon. The ambience is mellow, restful and cosmopolitan. Foreign visitors rub shoulders with the locals, chic fashion shops are bordered by traditional markets, and a plethora of hidden temples can be found squeezed in between art galleries and highly touted restaurants. Swimming is safe, and surfers can take a boat out to the nearby reef. Water sports include catamaran sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and wakeboarding. Villa Taman Sorga is just twenty-five minutes drive from Bali’s international airport, forty minutes from the cultural town of Ubud, twenty minutes from Sukawati art and handicraft market, and twenty-five minutes from the restaurants, shops and nightlife of Kuta and Seminyak. The recent construction of the Sanur-Kusumba by-pass, positions Sanur within easy driving distance of most of Bali’s tourist attractions. The Villa
Immersed in a rich history and set on spacious grounds surrounded by outstanding Balinese paintings, stone carvings and wall murals, Villa Batujimbar is a historic inspiration. The estate was the realization of a dream by Donald Friend, considered one of Australia’s most important artists. Friend resided in Sanur for much of the 1960s and 1970s. Villa Batujimbar is a testimony to Friend’s strong interest in traditional Balinese architecture and its reinterpretation.

Sri Lankan Geoffrey Bawa, an internationally recognized prolific and influential architect helped bring Friend’s vision to life. The overall concept was inspired by the nineteenth century palaces at Klungkung and Amlapura. In 1975, Bawa designed various additions to the house, including a large museum building to house Friend’s collection of Balinese artworks and artifacts as well as Friend’s own paintings. Made of Majapahit red brick and rectangular in shape, the museum is set formally in the center of the compound with a moat around it and a long pool in the front.

Following Friend’s departure from Bali, Adrian Zecha, the founder of the Aman resorts became the estate’s owner. Subsequently, Zecha’s in house designer, Ed Tuttle (designer of many award winning hotels) was called in to refurbish the estate. Tuttle’s renovation gave the estate a new organized look emphasizing clean lines and space. The next owner, international entrepreneur Graeme Robertson faithfully restored the estate to capture lifestyle opulence with the addition of a tennis court, gym and an impressive collection of art for the museum. The estate is spread over 1 hectare of landscaped gardens and ponds and made up of a number of separate buildings following the design of Balinese compounds with the kitchen in the south, the temple in the north-east, and the main house in the west. With wonderful indoor-outdoor relationships, orienting its various structures to catch views and breezes, and using traditional materials such as alang-alang thatching, bamboo, brick and paras stone, Villa Batujimbar creates its own magical ambience. Villa Batujimbar has five generously sized suites, each with an open-plan en-suite bathroom. Two of the suites (suites three and four) are next to each other, located on the east of the estate. The other two suites (suites one and two) are located across the courtyard. The fifth bedroom is situated in the backyard with its own gate and connecting door to the pond. The suites are luxurious, yet simple and uncluttered.

Pool
Located by the private museum, Villa batujimbar’s swimming pool stretches 25 meters. A pool pavilion lies adjacent which has a bathroom as well as a large sitting area.

Gym
Villa Batujimbar’s gym has a wide range of equipment including an elliptical runner, treadmill, multi-purpose station, hamstring machine, a range of dumbells and swiss balls.

Tennis Court
Villa Batujimbar’s tennis court is situated towards the front of the estate. A tennis pavilion with fridge, sitting area, and toilet is situated beside it. One of our staff members, Made, himself a fine tennis player, is also able to be a hitting partner.

Museum
The private museum has a large collection of Balinese art and artifacts by local and western masters, many of which depict scenes from Villa Batujimbar. Paintings showcase the development of art in Bali and present artists who found inspiration in Bali. It houses a superb collection of original Donal Friend paintings from the Value Link collection.

Other Facilities
Villa Batujimbar has direct access to the Sanur Beach. There is a wide path running the entire length of the beach which makes it easy for a leisurely stroll, an energetic early morning jog, or a relaxing bicycle ride where you can stop at the many beach-side cafes for a refreshing drink or a delicious meal. A range of water activities such as snorkeling, water-skiing, jet-skiing, parasailing, wind-surfing, outrigger sailing and SCUBA diving can be found nearby in numerous water sport centers. Villa Batujimbar is located within the Batujimbar Estate, arguably Bali’s most exclusive district, in the center of Sanur. Traditionally a fishing village, Sanur is one of the few remaining Brahman kuasa villages in Bali controlled by members of the priestly caste. Among its many charms, Sanur boasts some of the most beautiful processions on the island, Bali’s only female keris dance and the island’s oldest stone inscription.

Sanur is steeped in history, with some of the earliest recorded writings in Bali emblazoned on a pillar known as the Prasanti Blanjong. The pillar dates back to AD 913 and is now kept in a temple in Blanjong village, located in the south of Sanur. The inscriptions detail the arrival of a Javanese King who came to Bali to teach Mahayana Buddhism. Quiet and relatively laid back, Sanur still has the feeling of old Bali. Ancient temples can be found interspersed along the Sanur coast. Characterized by coral walled enclosures providing shelter to platform altars, this style of temple is unique to the Sanur coast.

Sanur makes a good base for exploring the island as it is served by a main dual-carriage road that passes inland and not along the beach itself. Travel to Ubud takes 30 minutes, Seminyak, 25 minutes, the airport, 20 minutes and Bali’s capital, Denpasar, 15 minutes. An excellent center for families, nearby, but detached from the popular tourist areas of Bali. Ready access to the Jimbaran restaurant area and on the main road to Ubud, Sanur represents the entrance to the mountain kingdoms and conversely, the coastal playgrounds. Good restaurants and massage and spa facilities are readily available in the quiet romantic environment of Sanur.

Villa Mahapala offers 20 uniquely designed villas customized for all visitors, including high-end guests, and induces a feeling of singularity according to their zodiac sign. All villas feature signature designs, echoing the same mysticism of zodiac symbols in a smart decorated ambience influenced by contemporary Balinese architecture. The resort offers 2 types of villas illustrating either a subtle or bold colour that defines “masculinity” or “femininity”.

Designed to take full advantage of the artistic skills of local Balinese craftsmen, the interior makes use of marble, wood and local ceramics whilst tropical plants and flowers surround the garden and pool. Accommodation
Villa Frangipani comprises 3 large double en-suite bedrooms each with built in wardrobes and a desk opening up on to the garden and pool. Two bedrooms, The Bougainvillea room and the Hibiscus room each have a large double bed with separate cupboard areas. The en suite bathrooms include double basins, a bath and in door and out door showers. The Jasmine room includes 2 single beds, a separate wardrobe and an en suite bathroom. Each bedroom has substantial suitcase storage areas. All three rooms have their own verandahs.

There is a further fourth bedroom, The Lotus room, with a single sofa bed that can also be used as a second TV room or study. All the bedrooms are air conditioned. The living area comprises an open plan kitchen, with all facilities, a breakfast bar, a dining area and a large living area with generous sofas and armchairs.

There is a separate area at the back of the villa that provides facilities for the domestic helper to wash and iron guests’ clothes. The garden allows for loungers and chairs to be placed in either the sun or shade.

Villa Frangipani is set within a small villa complex that provides 24 hour security, car parking, emergency generator and has its own restaurant and bar. The restaurant has a wide and varied menu and meals can be delivered directly to villa.

Location and History
Villa Frangipani is conveniently located in the village of Sanur, twenty minutes from the international airport, the shopping centre and night life of Kuta and the restaurants of Seminyak. It is only a 5 minute walk to the beach.

Sanur has a unique history and here one can get a taste of the real Bali and experience how the Balinese live. Sanur is where troops from the Netherlands first came ashore in 1906 and went to war against the Balinese, who fiercely defended their island against Dutch colonization. It was here that Le Mayeur, a Belgium artist, made his home in the 1930s. He fell in love with the people and the abundance of nature, which inspired him to paint hundreds of paintings.

By the 1960s, Sanur was the “in” place. Walter Spies, Sophia Loren and royalty came to stay in Sanur where they were able to keep a low profile and immerse themselves in paradise. In the 1990′s Mick Jagger and his former wife Jerry Hall married in Sanur in a traditional Hindu Balinese ceremony. Today, Sanur retains its laid-back atmosphere with a few changes for the good. Many new restaurants that offer a wide variety of both Western and Indonesian cuisines have opened. A supermarket, specialty and tourist shops and traditional Balinese massage salons are within easy walking distance of the villa.

Recently, all Sanur beaches have been reclaimed. Tons of sand was brought in from the ocean to replace the sand that had been washed away. The boardwalk was also repaired providing a pleasant beach stroll. The beach at Sanur provides all the water sports facilities that are expected of a tropical beach setting. The location of Villa Frangipani is within easy access of Ubud, the art capital of Bali and the mountainous region of Mount Kintamani and Lake Batur. The location is within a 5 minutes drive of a 9-hole golf course and two well equipped modern gymnasiums.

Entrance
Guests will enter the villa through a large watergarden comprised of four fishponds complete with bubbling fountains. This delightful courtyard area is planted with yellow irises, torch ginger, and a pair of ancient frangipani trees, while the walls are decorated with hand-carved Palimanan stone friezes depicting ocean and river themes. There is a secure car park and garage at the entrance.

Living and Dining Pavilion
Approaching the large living and dining pavilion, the ocean is immediately visible through the glass walls, which form three sides of this stand-alone building. A statue of Ganesha rests on one side of the glass entrance doors beside a sparkling wall of water cascading down to a lower level. The rectangular-shaped pavilion features a marble floor and a soaring roof lined with rattan. The sliding glass doors can be opened to allow the sea breezes and the rhythmic sounds of the waves to penetrate, and the room can also be cooled by ceiling fans. A circular dining table for eight is positioned at one end. The other side of the pavilion is furnished with two sofas, lazy chairs, an ottoman, a coffee table, handcrafted lamps and local artefacts. A small kitchen is positioned next to the dining area and a fully equipped service kitchen is located in the staff service area. Guests also have the option of dining alfresco on the elevated terrace in front of the pavilion, which overlooks the garden and the pool and the ocean, and is furnished with an outdoor dining table and chairs. A guest washroom is situated immediately outside the living and dining pavilion.

Games Room
A stone staircase leads from the living pavilion down to the air-conditioned games room, complete with an arched wooden ceiling and an adjoining, open-air, walled courtyard. The games room is equipped with a pool table, a dart board, a wood-panelled bar with six bar chairs, a luxurious leather sofa, and a 40″ LCD screen satellite TV, ideal for watching sports. The courtyard is open to the sky, bordered by a water cascade, and furnished with a synthetic rattan bar table and high chairs, together with a coffee table and chairs.

Master Suite
The 2-storey master suite comprises the ground floor master bedroom and en-suite bathroom, and an upstairs study together with a DVD room.

The air-conditioned master bedroom embraces a green theme with a cool marble floor and a built-in daybed. Sliding glass doors open onto the stone terrace on the one side and a timber deck on the other side, offering wonderful ocean views. The bedroom is furnished with a king size, canopied, four-poster bed and a lazy chair. Sumptuous cushions, golden Buddhas and an LCD satellite TV and DVD/CD player, complete the picture of luxury. An en-suite dressing area presents built-in teakwood wardrobes with shelves, drawers and a safe deposit box, and vanity unit with twin washbasins and a large wall mirror. A toilet is tucked away in a cubicle. A rainshower and a large, sunken Jacuzzi are positioned in an adjoining open-air walled courtyard, complete with a fish pond, potted plants and a Palimanan stone frieze.

A downstairs hallway is accessed via a door from the master bedroom and also from an external door. From here, a set of stairs leads up to a cosy, air-conditioned sitting room boasting an aquamarine theme. Equipped with a DVD player, a Playstation, a low opium table, a sideboard, and a corner sofa that can be converted to twin beds, this room is ideal for children and adults alike. Next door is an air-conditioned study with windows on three sides that can be folded open to the breeze, offering an eye-boggling 270-degree view of the river estuary, the mountains, the beach, the ocean and the neighbouring islands. Featuring dark purple walls, the study is furnished with a desk, chair, large sofa and shelf unit. WiFi Internet access is available throughout the villa.

Guest Bedrooms
The main guest bedroom is on the ground floor under a soaring roof, with sliding glass doors on two sides. Characterised by an olive green theme, it is similar to the master bedroom, furnished with a king-size bed and equipped with air-conditioning, a built-in daybed, an LCD satellite TV and DVD/CD player. A timber deck at the front is furnished with a table and a pair of planter chairs. The air-conditioned dressing area presents a wardrobe, a safe deposit box, a reading desk and a full length mirror. The en-suite open-air bathroom features a terrazzo vanity unit with wash basin, a toilet within an alcove, and a rainshower, harmonised with a fishpond, creamy-white Palimanan stone walls and floor, and a hand-carved frieze.

The other two air-conditioned guestrooms are ideal for children. Located on ground level, one is furnished with twin beds and the other with a queen-size, four-poster bed. Each is equipped with an LCD satellite TV and DVD/CD player. Three steps lead from each bedroom down to dressing areas, each fitted with a wardrobe, a safe deposit box, and a vanity unit with a washbasin. The twin-bedded room features a toilet within a cubicle on this level. En-suite garden bathrooms present outdoor rainshowers. The room with the queen bed boasts an additional rainshower indoors, and a bathtub and toilet positioned in the private, walled, outdoor area.

Garden & Pool
The beautiful garden is punctuated with coconut palms and dominated by a 20 x 4 metre, infinity-edge lap pool that follows the line of the beach and is elevated above a beachside lawn. A large ‘bale bengong’ relaxation pavilion is situated at one end of the pool and fitted with two, large mattresses, making it an ideal spot for a massage. At the other end of the pool is a wood-panelled pool bar with a pitched roof. The pool deck is furnished with sunloungers and umbrellas. There is also a pool shower. The expansive gardens make Villa Pushpapuri the perfect setting for barbeques, weddings, parties and other special events, including open-air Balinese dance performances. If required, the catering can be managed by external caterers who have the world-class expertise to prepare a sumptuous feast in addition to the coordination of decorations, flowers, lighting and entertainment.

Pushpapuri is supported by the exemplary service of a carefully selected team of highly trained, friendly staff who will do everything within their power to ensure that guests at the villa enjoy a truly luxurious and relaxing experience. The team is headed by a villa manager who will oversee and coordinate the staff and property, and is available to assist guests during their stay. There is also a cook, trained in the preparation of both Asian and Western cuisine, and personal butlers who are on hand to pamper and look after every guest need. Additionally, the team includes housekeepers, a gardener and pool attendant, and security guards operating on a 24-hour shift basis. The staff are responsible for all the market shopping, in accordance with the whims of the guests. General Description
Smara Bai is opening directly to the ocean through 60 meters beach front. The villa consists of 3 main buildings out of the staff area featuring four air conditioned bedrooms, a large open air living and dining area, an indoor cosy living room, large verandas and bale.

A spacious open living and dining area facing the sea, located after the main entrance is decorated with simplicity but elegance. The fully equipped kitchen, in the same building is adjacent to the dining.

A closed building paralleled to the beach is featuring 3 bedrooms including en-suite bathroom and walk in dressing area opened on the sea with large glass sliding door opening in to wooden veranda overlooks the swimming pool and the ocean where a dining table is set up to six people to enjoy the breakfast in the warm sunrise. Next to the master bedroom one indoor living area is featuring comfortable sofa, armchairs and coffee table.

The third building is featuring the fourth bedroom including dressing, bathroom and a connected study room.

The garden is shaded by verdant jungle foliage and filled with an abundance of brightly colored, sweet-scented tropical flowers and plants. The large T shaped swimming pool is equipped with a gazebo as well as some long chairs with mattresses providing a space for relaxation.
